On May 13 introduced a group of senators introduced the Social Security Identity Defense Bill of 2015, which if passed, would require the IRS to notify an individual and law enforcement if it has reason to believe the individual’s SSN was fraudulently used.
The bill also includes a provision requiring the Social Security Administration to notify employers who submit fraudulently used Social Security numbers. It adds civil penalties and extends jail time for the fraudulent use of SSNs.
It will be interesting to see if the bill makes it the President’s desk.
